Plantation Shutters

Plantation shutters are the most popular interior shutters now. They’re usually offered with a 3 ½” louver but can also have 2 ½” or 4 ½” louvers.

If you want a contemporary appearance that can add life to any area and add an elegant touch, plantation shutters are a good solution.

Materials and Colors

Quality shutters are made from thick cellular PVC, furniture-grade wood or a blend of the two materials.

PVC helps conserve energy because it insulates up to three times better than wood. It’s also light and durable. Wood gives a timeless look and can be stained to match your favorite color option.

They often are made in white colors to illuminate a room, but also are created in darker colors.

Louver Width

Louver thickness impacts how broad of a view you’ll receive when your shutters are open. And how much natural light will be let into your room.

  • 2 ½”—This the thinnest louver size for plantation shutters. It is a good fit if you want to match current shutters in your residence or are going for a historical style. This size is good for small windows, but also can be installed on bigger ones.
  • 3 ½”—This is one of the most requested louver sizes, as it has a contemporary style. It works with small to large windows while permitting in abundant sunshine.
  • 4 ½”—This is also a well-liked louver thickness, as it has a very contemporary appearance. It’s ideal for picture windows and patio doors, since it delivers the biggest view.

California Shutters

California shutters have a 2 ½” louver that’s usually white.

Deluxe kinds of this shutter are made from solid cellular PVC or fine wood. They can also be crafted from a mixture of the two materials.

This style can be stained or painted a variety of colors, although California shutters are usually a lighter color. This keeps areas inviting while allowing in light.

As California shutters have a thinner louver, they give a more conventional look. They work well on either small or large windows.

We can help you create this look for your residence by personalizing our most wanted plantation shutters.

Traditional Shutters

Traditional shutters are a historically correct style with close frames and 1 ¼” minute louvers.

Premium types of this shutter are manufactured from fine natural wood, such as basswood. They provide a timeless style that works with any window width.

We built Louver Shop of Charleston on these shutters decades ago. Now, we’re among a couple of businesses in the world who still offer this kind.

Fit Matters for Custom Shutters

A tight fit is essential, whatever shutter style you select.

Pre-made shutters could seem like a good buy, but they may possibly not fit your windows well. And if they’re made overseas, you can’t be sure what type of quality you’re going to get. Or if they’ll work for more than a few years.
